Hi :

Rewinding a starter motor coil and reducing the wires thickness is not good for the motor performance side ... the motor characteristics : All dimensions, wire thickness, air gaps, type of mechanical gears used , etc. ... determine the torque and RPM of the motor ... Reducing or increasing in random way any of those parameters can make huge decrease the performance ...
I have tried to do so two times till now with thinner wires and more windings turns ... But the performance of the motor is dramatically reduced in both tries .
