Help on dimensioning engines with 3DOF

Postby tanito87 » Mon 10. Jun 2013, 17:21

Hi. I am planning on building a 3DOF with Futuresims design, but with some modifications
I want to use it for racing sim, so i am planning a faster setup.
The max load on sim will be 150kg.
Will a 1hp 1500rpm 50:1 and 150mm between edges be enough?
I am afraid it will not be fast enough or have enough power.

Regards,

1hp is strong enough but the gear ratio is too small .You can choose a bigger gear ratio 90:1 100:1.Between 15 and 20 rpm at the output shaft is a good choice.

Look around for other projects with ac motors.

Ok, so a 75:1 will do fine (we have 50hz in here, so our 4 poles engines run at 1500rpm, 75:1 will do fine for 20rpm output).
Will it have enough power to mount it without a spring and shock?

Thank you very much.

For me not necessary to have spring. You will have enough torque ( 300Nm for each motor !!!) . You could lift more than 150 kg full speed.
You have too choose great inverters and if you setup them great you can achieve all mouvements you want ( smooth , harsch ...).

Look at Thanos motionblog and the guy with the 6dof simulator (the one used for 6dof xsim banner picture) , he uses inverters which have the Vector Flow Control feature (ask the brand name to Thanos Hitachi , Omron I believe) .
There aren't too much expensive and this feature is really adapted for motion simulator. You can have a very high torque at low motor rpm ( include 0 rpm) and this VFC mode can drive ac motors with high dynamics ( fast like synchrone motors).

Yes, i have been speaking with him to order his AMC1280USB board which is a great piece of equipment.
I will use yaskawa, osrom or sew VFD probably.

Thank you very much for your answer. the first thing i will buy is the board.

Hi,
Please document your build of the 3DOF with clear measurements, a cutting list, a shopping list of materials, parts, motors, electronics, linkages etc so that other people can can follow you by example.

In this way you will also be a driving force and an inspiration to others.

This is the reason I have posted very clear instructions for the 3DOF Build.

PS: Please also make a really nice wiring diagram and clear instructions and videos of your setup once your 3DOF has been built.
Also make good videos of the different stages of your build.

Thank you.

I will do Futuresims. I will first wait for the thanos board although. Then i will build it and start a step by step tutorial during the building.

I just have very little things to clear up before i start which are: the sensors and, what most worries me, the x-sim setup.

Try these sensors here: http://www.digikey.com/product-search/en?mpart=6127V1A180L.5FS&vendor=987

They fit perfectly for AC motors (180 degrees range of arm), are magnetic, meaning contact-less and very noise-free signal.

The x-sim3 software setup is very easy. If you request it to Sirnoname he could even adapt the AMC1280USB for easy 3DOF combined motion since it has its own plug n play detection driver *

Best Regards,
Thanos

Thank you thanos, you already send me those sensors via email, but i will try to get a similar sensor here, if not i will import the ones you sent me from digikey.

There is another solution, less expensive than having to import them (customs fees are crazy sometimes). You can order them via me and I'll include them in your AMC1280USB package. Gilles (vicpopo) did the same to avoid customs ;)
