Motor torque needed

Postby antoine2055 » Fri 7. Mar 2014, 07:44

Hi,
I plan on making a 2 DOF simulator. I would use 2 motors to rotate the chair about 2 axis, and I would use some light metal for the frame. How much torque or power would I need for the motors? I suppose one would use more because the second axis must rotate something heavier, but then I doesn't rotate about the same axis so maybe it actually needs less?

Thank you for your answer

It is not a question about rotating or mass. You need some power for acceleration of mass else your simulator will have unrealistic delays.
For flight sims, for simulating a big plane flight, acceleration is not needed.
So the answer could be: as much power you can get.
Most fun for racing is for sure the standard moving racing seat with low power actuators, so it is your decision where you go.

Well torque is needed for acceleration. The more power there is, the more torque there is at a given rpm. I need a rotation of 180° for complete movement (1g accelerating to 1g decelerating) and I think I could do that in half a second (60 rpm) so it doesn't lag. Now if I could get an indication of how much torque I would need, I could figure the power I need. I plan on putting the axis straight through the center of gravity of lets say a typical cockpit made a light metal.

Do you think half a seconde is too long? Maybe a quarter of a second, meaning I have to get twice the power no mather the torque?
