Connection to my wiper motors how to?

Postby 081161 » Sat 1. Nov 2014, 00:43

Dear experts,

I am new here and just started to make a 2 DOF seat mover based on two Doga wormgear 12 V motors, type 111.

The speed of movement I need is not that big as in a race simulator because I want A flight simulation movement of my chair.

I have one problem which i cannot solve before I can go on with my project.
How do I connect an alu strip/ metal strip or something else on my wiper motor ax to move my chair?

Can anybody help my or give me good advice or explain me how i make an strip/rod with internal spline connection?

something like this:

In advance thanks for any help

best regards

Hello Michel!

Is there a hole into the shaft? Can we have a look on the side?

Hai Mat,

Sorry there is no hole in the shaft.
The ax is solid with splines, exactly what you see on the picture.
Only welding i see as an option at the moment but also that is not easy i think.

Best regards

or you can maybe use an outer tube with a pin ("goupille" in frecnh) if the diameter is not to small

I had the same problem and tried few solutions like extending that small shaft with some shaft extenders like this here:

http://www.mgs4u.com/RF-Microwave/pictures/SC-01.jpg

But that didn't went well, first I couldn't make it tight enough, after some time of moving it gets untighten and loose. Although I didn't tried to drill a small hole into the shaft and put a screw. Second, if the shaft is extended too long it will start to bent. You would need a supporting bearing, look here, this is good example:

I've also tried very strong glues like "Loctite" for these kind of things, but that didn't help either, it got unscrewed after a few motions.

All in all, at the end I always ended up welding the metal arm directly on that wiper shaft with few small points, and never had any troubles. But be sure you do it right from first try, if you need to cut the shaft to undo mistakes, shaft will get very short.

well done, nice find this Prodiguy

+1 : screw are not enough: drill from side to side if diameter is enough ;)
+1 : for bearing if too long ;)
+1 : welding is the best ;)

Hello All

Thanks for your help, tips and tricks but as I already thought : welding is the most secure option.

I will try to find somebody wo is good at it.

As soon as I start my project I will start uploading pictures

Thanks again.

Best Regards
