NEWBIES!! my experience getting it work (scn5).

Postby f1iceman » Sun 30. Aug 2015, 13:57

Hi all

I have decided to post this to help anyone new coming into the sim building and as i am starting from scratch with motion sims and 2x scn5, i thought i would share my experience and problems with any future newbies so we are on the same level to talk about things we dont understand and issues we have on our quest.

BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING I'M AFFRAID YOU WILL HAVE LOTS TO READ UP ABOUT FIRST, MAKE SURE YOU DO IT !!!!!
YOUR BEST FRIEND IS THE HELP AND MANUAL TROUBLE SHOOTING.

Right this is my experience.
First theres the daunting task of so so so much info to take in and how it all works (you will feel stressed i did ), but please hold in there and go thru the setup wiring and help section as it really does help.
Before you connect any kit upto the power and switch on MAKE SURE YOUR 110% SURE IT IS WIRED RIGHT.

NOW SOFTWARE
Please watch the training videos over and over a few times before you start and you will feel better later on.
Your first problem might be after install as soon as simforce 3d does not work your like whaaaat !!!! great
Well if simforce dont work its not gunna work so dont think its wrong and try to fix it i have found this out .(SOME IT WORKS ON SOME IT DONT)
I spent too much time trying to solve it from uninstalls to setting changing, after i then looked for help on the site and found theres no fix so ive just saved you hours of messing about.
Please use task manager to end the task and get ride of all BOXS/ERRORS, Some are deleting each box and some restart but simply just control+alt+delet select on menu end task. Job done carry on.

Right now thats sorted don't bother starting anything until you know the system has found your hardware for now, as that will be an important task if its not there or seen by the software you can have fun later tho, check your com port is there thru device manager and then check in the x-sim converter programme under ( output setup - uso and then see com port at the top ).
If it's not there you need to solve it and why :( goto help pages or manual.
most likely if its not there it won't be in the device manager in the first place and con solve that.
If it is there great goto next step.

now goto the converter and select the interface setting, you should have in the output interface list your hardware ( scn5 ) and the input interface, any (controllers joystick or wheel ) ect..... i think.
if no hardware found in the output ( scn5 ) then you got some work to do and follow the help theses guys have put together and follow it over and over again ok, it can be abit hard to sink in whats what but just keep at it even if you dont have much know how with computers you can still do alot to fix things.
i had 2days to solve mine which was a driver for the usb vscom i used, my fault was it could see the com port and usb so was looking ok but the usb was not talking to the scn5's all was looking broke or wrong kit.
FTDI driver was my fault and took awhile to find one that worked.

Now if you have got the info in the output box then great relax and have a rest from it with a time out n cuppa playing with the rock n ride setup by pressing the profiles in the converter.
sim wizard
green 3d chair rock n ride simulation.
Then watch the training video and get some 3d graphics to move with the game with the confidence you can have half a chance to get the hardware later working with a game as you have done that bit if your here.
do not try to rush any of this.

if you have the video to follow but as the video uses the 3d simforce and version 3 x-sim, it can look diffrent to the video footage and can make at times feel its not right what your doing same with the ther videos as theres been a few changes i think over time regarding the video to new updated software.

now i hope this helps and can save you time so far as its hard enough as a newbie.

Please all experienced guys if i have done wrong to what i have wrote, Please use this post to correct me with any thing or what we newbies come up with if this post works and gets comments on getting started problems or general experiences from us newbies in one place is a good place to be and check to help us, we will get better im sure but its very sad and dissapointing to have the hardware but your just can not make it work !

i know the info is all there but so much going on being new, ive tried to relate it to how i felt and what i wanted to find and thats some one new like me and this is what i wanted to see being new, no disrect to anyone else just what i couldnt find due to soooo many posts and thing to look for.
help is help and experience is experience

hope newbies use this or say hello or even correct me along the way to make this easy to get started to which we can understand as time goes on.

Cheers

Hi Guys

Ive now moved to actually getting movement to the scn5s and a game :D Yeeee Haaaaa !!!!

I found my self messing trying to get it to work but had no joy getting it to work on a game with the scn5 :-( very frustrating as i got them to work fine with the sliders following the help tutorial took some time to sink in but sorted it and they moved and was very happy with the seat moving with the sliders :D
But switching to a game was kinda Dissapointing  it would never work, so i would keep loading and re-loading the profiles and the maths standard setups from the converter you name it i was trying it.
So i was abit stuck untill i had a rest and talked to my self thru the day like a mad man, I then had an idea 8-)

I looked in the output setup going on the info the sliders needed to work, it says by tabs "Control Output Axis " (Use the game input) so I thought all was ok, But I then clicked on the tab and it came up with left and a right actuator in the list so i selected one of them to see what came up, but nothing changed just the name to (left actuator) but i noticed nothing in the output direct tab so i then clicked that and my scn5's were there, I selected the correect match , and then did the same again changing the control output to the right actuator then tagging the other scn5 to that on the output direct tab.

I put it back to the game input after and pressed start.
fired the game up and pressed start on the converter software and hey presto it worked game was working the the scn5's it was callibrated from setting and running the 3d first already, but it was kinda jerky movements but happy it was moving i guess for *

next step is to figure out how to smooth it out if i can and get a feeling from it by way it drives, but saying that i dont have my wheel connected yet just using keyboard.

i still have no idea what im doing yet but it moves so thats good :D

i would love it if there was a x-sim memebers profile for the game Race07, just so i can see what is possible and what the info looks like for the math of it and to how well it works.
i tried profiling by following the video on profiling part 1 but failed to tie it in with the scn5's again and making them move even doing what i did above.

well if anyone can help with a profile or an option of settings to try out i would very much like to try it.

I really want to get the no limits roller coaster going so my kids can have a few goes before it gets packed away to be worked on with the rest of the build.

Cheers All

You are in the right place for the original x-sim software. Other sites are just trying to copy (and be rude in the process) :D
