Max weight for wiper setup

Postby modmate » Thu 19. Jul 2012, 20:05

Hey,

Been looking along time through the whole x-sim forums and all the time wanted to start also building my own motion sim.
Now i got some more time in future i would like to do it. since this would be my first attempt on a real motion sim i dont want to spend too much money and wanted to build a wiper motor 2 dof sim. Got tons of information about the building and setup but there is still one thing :

What should be the MAX weight of a person for wiper motors? ( With Pivot setup correctly)
What can the max weight to move without failure?

Thx

if the balance is right and the frame not too heavy and the placement of wipers in the best leverage spot, either as far away from the pivot as possible , or at shoulder mount at rear, a 100kg driver MAX could do it, but really about 80-90kg or under. I found that out from personal experience.

Hi,

Thanks for reply. Thats the point , i got about 100kg. So you think if everything placed correct and i use a aluminium frame it should work, or is it too much for the wipers? Is ther ea alternative between wipers and scn actuators?

For the builduing , since i got a complete simbase finished some time ago and got some space on the back and sides i would go for the rear mount of wipers like stephaned61 did. Cant find is thread but here is a pic of his:

Dunno if that the best way or to mount it near shoulder.

I reckon motors mounted at shoulders would be better.
As for motors, use these http://www.motiondynamics.com.au/worm-d ... orque.html, they should move 100kg, but I have only tested to 90 kg under a seat mover.

Ive heard about those worm motors. May have a look for those in europe/germany. I hope they are worth the money compared to a wiper.
Im not sure about the mounting , i guess if i mount it shoulder near there will be more weight on the motors but i will get better effects i think.

As motiondave mentioned it's all about good balance

Next to that using springs like david and I use can help reducing the load on the motors as well.

Last week a friend of mine had a go on my sim and he weighs 112kg, my wiper motors had no problem moving him and didn't even get hot (just like my jrk's, they kept running nice and cool as well with the heatsinks and 120mm fan).

Regarding the motors: I just bought these motors and gearboxes on ebay (am located in europe / the netherlands myself)

Send the seller a message that you want to buy multiple motors and gearboxes and he'll give you a fair shipping rate (£ 22,30 in my case). I ordered 5 (2 for someone else) which resulted in € 72,- each. They arrived within 3 days.

165

So why did I order new motors if my wipers move ok? Because I had problems with my axle mounts (turned out not to be the best design) which I got tired of and made me decide to buy new and even stronger/better motors.

Those motors are weapons. They kick something fierce.

show me a wiper that does that and I will buy them.
Having them connecting the shoulders is good, it moves with less force
