my 3dof setup

So, I've more or less have a design settled in my mind, but I'm stuck on the underside (motors, boards, power, etc)
for a 3dof setup, what do people recommend?
velleman? jrks?
what about motors?
I'm sure there are a lot of options, but I'm wondering what people found was the better way to go
(ie, it could work with wiper motors, but it works a whole lot better with "x" type of motor, for only a little more $$$)
