First of all, I am very grateful for the existence of this community and all the work that has gone in to create it.
I have wanted to build a platform since seeing some designs more than 10 years ago based on plastic pipe. Feels like things have moved on alot

I have been lurking for a while and now feel the best starting place is one of these 2DOF platforms based on wiper motors and a universal joint from a drive shaft. I have heavy duty angle grinders, welding equipment, lots of arduino experience, software and mechanical engineering experience, so I should be ok.
I have an existing driving rig, which is just a Playseat Challenge, a T300 and a highly tuned Riftcat + LG G6 VR setup. I don't want to mount monitors since I prefer VR, and looking to get everything moving including wheel & pedals (have seen seat-only movement, surely that is a big compromise? Tell me I'm wrong!). I am 6'4" (1.93) so need a system that can move a big object. I like the idea of keeping things modular, so the base should be a separate entity to the rig if that makes sense.
My avenues for research include working out the optimum design for simplicity, while achieving the best range of motion and power. I am assuming truck wiper motors are better than car ones? Any pointers for UK X-Sim'ers on obtaining these reasonably cheaply? Thinking of looking up a bunch of truck breaker yards. Maybe I should just get car ones off ebay?
