Feel Three - motion simulator for Oculus Rift

Postby traveltrousers » Sat 9. Aug 2014, 15:43

Thought I would share my work in progress motion simulator for the rift if some of you guys missed it on reddit.

It's modular, affordable, safe and stylish and there's nothing else like it out there.

I'm compromising with a belt driven approach, with about 180 degrees of pitch/roll and 90 degrees of yaw, but if I can get my free wheeling mecanum design to work it has the potential to be 360 degrees in all three axis. A built in gyro extrapolates the rotational data between sphere and rift. A heave (up/down) add on will be worked on once the base unit is done.

I'm blogging my progress at http://www.feelthree.com and will check back and up date this thread too. I'd appreciate your feedback and/or support.

Omnichains would be a cheap way of increasing traction to the sphere.

How can I add larger pictures? This is the most restrictive forum I have ever used....

Now that is some sexy looking machinery :)
Can't wait to see some more CAD and/or construction images.

Best of luck,
DoctorD

p.s. feel free to send me any mechanical design questions
