ARMO Motion SIM

Postby amoras10 » Tue 27. Nov 2012, 23:21

Hi all,

First this community ROCKS! Every1 doing great SIMs!!!

So I've decided to start building my sim too . My setup going to be like this, any comment, suggestion appreciated:

First i need to choose which build to go.
I want to build something like this>>>>:
, but i think i can't use here wiper motors?? I think i need winch motors, but maybe im wrong????
Inspired of http://www.x-sim.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=197

IF wiper motors isn't enough for this build, then ill go for one of these builds, any suggestions???
http://www.*.de/forum/sim-racing-project-2dof-k8055-sabertooth-2x12-stage-2-t3898.html
or this
http://www.x-sim.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=129 ?????????

Both have different connecting types, first connect rods to the chair, second build connect rods to the platform+springs. Confused which way is better?
I'm thinking about connect rods to that platform+springs...
but maybe these alternatives are better?>>>> even better then joyrider... ??

2. Second confusing part, controller. I've found lots of discussion about pollulu jrk12v12 or K8055+ sabertooth 2x12???
I read that pollulu jrk12v12 is more responsive, faster, and easier programing? right?

3. Power supply >>> I'm going to put these 2 http://www.ebay.nl/itm/12V-45A-600W-Switching-Power-Supply-/390458905509?pt=BI_Electrical_Equipment_Tools&hash=item5ae92a13a5 Enough? comments?

4. Wiper motors.
Thinking about these http://www.motiondynamics.com.au/worm-drive-motors-en/worm-drive-motors/12v-180w.html , but maybe somewhere is cheaper option? I sow much cheaper worm driver motors in alliexpres and allibaba....
Maybe u have something to suggest from ebay? or elsewhere?

Ok, I have done a joyrider with screen on with wipers and JRKS
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKAcXtnxHXU. It was a matter of balance and using the best leverage points, not the axis points.
Make sure the pitch frame is low so the centre of gravity is low.
Image
you can see the idea in the photo.

I suggest rod ends and threaded rod to connect the frame.
Springs were only used on mine because it helped stop the soft plastic gears in the wiper motors from being destroyed as it created a constant load on them, be it a light load.
You will NOT NEED springs with big worm gears or winches.
Use the Pololu JRK, easy to set up, 7 wires, no code to sort and we can give you PID suggestions easy. One per motor.
Power supply looks good, never too much power.
The motion dynamics motors are excellent, but yes there is a cheaper equivalent. Check the threads for this and Floriskes thread.
Cheers, David.

Oh, thanks, so then it is possible to make joyrider with wiper motors OK.
What motors did you used?
Do you have your project link?

I used car wiper motors, no particular model, just cheap and second hand. I looked for a larger size motor when I went to the car wrecking yard. $10 each
There is a post about this on another forum, but details are sketchy. I didn't really supply measurements as I designed as I went.
I saw photos of a joyrider and built off that.

These days i use the motion dynamics motors for my sims, as they are stronger, faster, and a good price. And the motor supplier is local to me.
Wipers off car 50-60 rpm. Big worm gear motors 180 rpm.
JRKS run the big motors fine. I have run the jrks at 38 amps continuous and the motors WAY overdriven, like at 500 watts. Ad they survived, but I dont recommend that high. 30 amps continuous on jrks is enough.

Hi amoras10
I started my project with wiper motors and replaced them pretty soon with winches. However as you can see in the project description, I also had to redesign my simulator and lower the axis so that they pass through the centre of gravity. The original design that you are referring to in the picture above needs far stronger motors than wipers or even winches.
New design vs old design
The joyrider design is space-consuming and simulates the low-frequency movements very nicely. Especially driving through curves feels fantastic.
On the other hand the two mentioned Frex-style simulators are much smaller and great for fast and strong pulses, tricking your mind into the game immersion. As I’m slow and have space enough for the simulator I prefer the joyrider ;)

If you balance your simulator nicely (take your time!) you can easily move the simulator with wipers. Tronicgr moved his
simulator with wipers!

772I didn't find hardly any data at Aliexpress about this motor – so difficult to say something…
Have you found more data like power, amps, even data curves?
771When you are patient with Ebay you can get a cheap deal. Otherwise: Time is money!
I bought mine at sitz24.

I'm using the Arwin TRC9202 (see last page in the link provided). I have no details on the motors and the producer was not able to give me details :( However you can esssentiall use any decent 12V winch with a standing traction force of ≥1'000 kg.
