2DOF, Pololu, Wiper motors

Postby ZANoza » Wed 5. Dec 2012, 08:00

Hi
So, I'm in the process of building my sim. I got inspiration from Floriske's and dearn's desings.
I'll be using famous pololu's JRKs. For now, i'm planning to use wiper motors, and then switch to something like wormgear motors. Only problem is that shipping cost of those nice motors from motion dynamics - is higher than the cost of two motors )). Oh, yes, i'm from Russia.

Here is basic blueprint and photos

It wasn't final though. I made some changes, when welding.

Nice job there.
Look at Floriskes thread for alternative big worm gear motors if it helps.

I own both - the zyt90 and wipers. Atm I'm very pleased with the wipers! For a seatmover design I see no need for a change. Comparing price to result it's hard to beat the wipers.

Just a suggestion.

I would give the wipers a go and focus more on tweaking tuning the system to perform the best it can. If you are not pleased with the result you could change anyway. Sure the wipers will not last forever  but for the junkyard price - I don't care changing them. Atm about 100hours on them with no wear.

Best regards

True on wipers...cannot go wrong for $10 each.

But I have to say, since I went big motors...sorry....cannot look back.

For the investment, its well worth it...
If you have wipers already, use them, and save for fatter motors later if you wish.
Thats what some of us did. ;)

I didn't have good luck with Wipers, with first two that I've ordered from second hand adverts (around 20 $ each), I've had problems with one wiper and ground isolation. At first I've tried to connect them without opening them, yet just connecting it to wires and that didn't work well, there was electricity through my frame. After opening the motors I've isolated the ground on one motor successfully, but on the other motor I couldn't do it no matter what, even though they were almost the same model from Golf III. After opening the motor for about 20 times apart, I didn't have will anymore and didn't want to change my frame just because of that so I've ordered another one.

When another one arrived, it was working slower than the other motor, I guess it was more used and you can't know that from a photo when you buy second hand stuff. So I've ended up with one good motor and one bad with slow reactions and that was pain in the ass to setup a balance. I've spend hours and hours in X-Sim to make good balance and centering, but no matter what, I always ended up with some bad motions.

I didn't wont to buy another wiper and end up again with bad one, so yesterday I've ordered ZYT90 motors. I was also looking the ones Dave recommends but the shipping from Australia was too expensive than shipping from UK.

I don't say that wipers are bad, they are very good solution for first time Sim and you can get good motion from them, but also prepare for bad scenarios too :)

okay, another day in sketchup )
you can see the drive shaft mounting platforms, and mount of the motor and lever arm.

do you know how to program with ruby and sketchup?
I like to deliver the math values inside sketchup for the animation addon.
If a answer is correct or did help you for a solution, please use the solve button.
