I'll show you my 2DOF simulator, mainly made with recycled materials, in order to limit the cost.
Chassis:
Size 1300X690
The basis of the simulator is a profile Bosh (1300x45x180) into two parts assembled by two aluminum profiles (600x20x20), the advantage it's adjustable position.
The main part of the chassis is made of steel tube 25x25, it is fixing: steering wheel, seat, pedals and small speaker.
A motor is fixed directly on one of the profiled Bosh, it's comes from metal curtain for the shop. The second motor is fixed by two steel profiles; I redid part of the axis. The motors can be moved on the base.
The rods used to move the chassis are made with tube and unibal from an old machine, I will replace because they have usury.
The chassis is connected to the base by a large diameter shaft and a cardan transmission from farm equipment, a gift from my brother, the chassis is adjustable for to adjust the center of gravity simulator.
Electrical:
The simulator works by two AC motors connected to two frequency converter. On each motor there is a potentiometer 10 KO connected to belt the axis motor.
Management is carried out by a board Velleman K8055 and the control relay card that I made, but you can use a relay card Velleman K8056. Action: forward / back.
For analog outputs controls speed of the drives via a small interface that I realized, this interface is used to convert the analog signal 0-5 volts to 0-10 volts for drives.
I added security by an emergency stop for two motors.
You can see a video at this address http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOuyvNJp7YY , it's the first test done, as you can see, the simulator is too brutal; I made the settings it works better. You can also see that the engine moves a lot, I forgot blocked at the base.
