Race sim

Postby 179dcf » Mon 5. Aug 2013, 13:32

Hi there this is my first post so I hope someone can help! I am trying to build a race rig with 2 rear actuators and I've seen the snc5 which looks great and seems to be a simple set up however they are quite expensive! Is there a simple and cheaper alternative? I've found these on eBay dose anybody know if this is achievable.
HIWIN ACTUATOR

TYPE: LAN1-21-1-250-12BE
MAX FORCE: 4000N J72071A2
MAX SELF-LOCKING: 3000N
MAX. SPEED: 8mm/sec
STROKE 250 mm
POWER RATING 12V,MAX. 11 AMP
WEIGHT: 2.72kg
Mfg.Date 2010/04/13
DUTY CYCLE MAX:10 % MAX 2 MIN
I.P 66

Please help

Kind regards dean

STROKE 250 mm - MAX. SPEED: 8mm/sec

If you take into account any load at all, that would drop even lower.

Here is the reason why scn5 are the #1 choice for electric actuators used in sim chairs.

scn5 100mm stroke - speed is 400mm /sec
scn5 150mm stroke - speed is 200mm /sec
scn5 250mm stroke - speed is 100mm /sec

They have been the only actuators that can achieve those speeds for the price.

There's tons of cheaper actuators, but none of them are anywhere CLOSE to those speeds... Generally 2-10mm/sec range. Which is awesome
if you want to simulate falling asleep. The only other cheap method for electric actuators at the moment is to buy these 2nd hand used, or to DIY if you have enough expertise in electronics, engineering, and machining.

If you really want a cheaper alternative, skip actuators and move on to wiper motors as a solution. With the right design and motors, it's
a fantastic alternative for a much lower cost than those actuators.

If you insist on using actuators, just compare them to the scn5 spec sheet...

Feel free to look at the videos in my project page and you'll see the scn5-150mm in action... They will move you around fast, what you
may not see in the video is the constant road vibrations and subtle bumps and shifts which you can definitely feel while using these.

Lets make the old calulation:
Arduino 20$
2x Bridge 60$
2x wiper motor 50$
Racing Rig ~ 900$
PC 1000$
= 2030$

2x SCN5 800$
2x converter 70$
Racing Rig ~ 900$
PC 1000$
=2770$

2030$ vs 2770$,
hmm 27% more is not so much difference for such a professional device, you can calculate it lower if you add the beamer or a big monitor
Only a thought ...

ps. 100mm SCN5 are enough.
