Loading a user made plugin

I'm playing with a custom game on a private license. I went through the documentation for developing a new game plugin, and I just got the sample projects to compile but when I put the dll into the plugin folder Extractor fails to start. Is there something I'm missing in the documentation? Does the dll need to be signed to work with xsim? Thanks in advance.
